ElevateMeD Scholar: Paul Delgado

Meet Paul Delgado

ElevateMeD Scholar 2024-25

Paul Delgado speaks to the need of more Spanish speaking providers, why she's specializing in cardiology and how giving back impacts our communities.

  • Hometown: I am from Oklahoma but I was raised in Mexico City.

  • Medical Education: Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences

  • Undergraduate Education: University of Oklahoma in Biology

  • Current Career Plan: Continue working on addressing the health disparities disproportionately affecting historically marginalized and immigrant communities by pursuing a career in cardiology.

  • Specialty Interest: Internal Medicine & sub-specialty Cardiology

  • I am most proud of being named the 2024 National Student DO of the Year. As a first-generation Latina and the first recipient from OSU-COM, I know I shared the win with my entire community.

  • You might be surprised to know that I love traveling and have done solo backpacking across multiple countries. I think getting immersed in other cultures allows you to be exposed to different people, perspectives, and gives you a better appreciation for diversity.

  • ElevateMeD is… an opportunity to have more financial security to focus on my studies and support my commitment to a lifelong pursuit to of health justice. Being an ElevateMeD scholar also grants me the opportunity to have access to a greater network platform to continue to give back to the future generations of medicine. In the end, the goal is not to be the first and only, but one of more to come.
