I decided to join the Board of Directors for ElevateMeD because it aligns with my core value of inclusion. The literature showed that to provide the best healthcare to our patients, we need to understand their culture, speak their language, among other factors.
Underrepresented undergraduate students are not pursuing careers in medicine compared to other groups field for multiple reasons. It is our job as physicians from similar backgrounds to demonstrate the importance of joining forces to help our people and communities. ElevateMeD is a platform that has this mission, and I fully support the mission to elevating the field of medicine by providing financial support and mentorship to future physicians. ElevateMeD aims to increase physician workforce diversity and improve cultural competence among physicians to reduce health disparities.
I am an international medical graduate that believes that diversity and inclusion are essential for patient care and physician wellness.
It was not easy for me but now that I’m on the other side, I want to help others to achieve their goals of becoming physicians.
