Explosion of a Dream
Scholars Summit 2024
Fourth Annual Scholars Summit featuring 3-Days of Leadership Development!
ElevateMeD hosted the fourth annual Scholars Summit during the Explosion of a Dream weekend on September 20-22nd. This year’s summit was attended by 30 scholars including all 20 scholars from our 2024-25 cohort, 5 scholars from our previous cohort and 5 alumni who have graduated and become physicians. The summit featured a weekend of workshops and speakers designed to enhance the leadership and professional development skills of each scholar. This year's Scholars Summit was fully funded through sponsorships provided by Mayo Clinic, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, All Medical Personnel, Novocure, Love Tito’s, and Gilead.
Day 1
Welcome Reception
The Scholars Summit kicked off with our annual Welcome Reception featuring an icebreaker with Dr. Marissa Vasquez (ElevateMeD Program Chair) that resulted with us crowning our first “I Declare War” champion. Followed by insightful remarks from Dr. Michele Halyard on breaking barriers in a field as “one of a few” or as “the only”, our Scholars pinning ceremony with Dr. Tiffany Hardway (ElevateMeD Scholarship Chair), and networking with our scholars, board, and mentors that joined from across the country.
Day 2
Breakfast & Headshots
with The Social Photog
Day 2 of the ElevateMeD Scholars Summit traditionally begins with breakfast, peer networking and headshots. Scholars spent the morning engaging with each other, mentors and board members after taking new professional headshots that can be used for residency and fellowship applications.
STORYTELLING
with Hadiya Nurridin
This year students completed a pre-work assignment that laid the groundwork for their 90-minute interactive session with story teller Hadiya Nuriddin. By writing down their motivation, key experiences, and strengths beforehand, they arrived at the session ready to further explore the unique elements that defined their personal stories. Scholars were also offered One-on-Ones with the storyteller to further feedback in preparation for their residency interviews and shaping their personal statements.
Financial Wellness
with John Hampton
Financial and personal wellness education is a key pillar of the ElevateMeD Scholars program that is designed to ensure that EleateMed Scholars have a sustainable and fulfilling career in medicine. This year’s financial wellness prepared our scholars to consider early financial choices and they transition from medical school, residency, to more senior roles in medicine. Scholars were encouraged to prioritize assets over liabilities as they build and reallocate their budgets over time to ensure their overall financial wellness.
Lunch and Learn
Many thanks to Premier Scholars Summit Sponsor Mayo Clinic. Dr. Devyani Lal joined Scholars and Board members for a networking Lunch and Learn session, while sharing information about Mayo Clinic’s commitment to health equity as a leading healthcare system.
HIGH SCHOOL Sesssion

ElevateMeD welcomed an inaugural cohort of local youth and high school students with an interest in careers in healthcare. Facilitated by the Director of Experiential Learning at Mayo Clinic, ElevateMeD Scholars mentored the high school students in donning and doffing PPE and tying surgical knots.
Influential Interactions Improv workshop
with The Outcasters
The rapid establishment of trust and thinking quickly are critical components that influence the doctor- patient partnership and our ElevateMeD Scholars participated in a fun and energizing workshop to help them refine and build those skills.
Explosion of A Dream

Day 3
Centering your wellbeing
with Keith Jones and Dr. Safia Ahmed
With burnout and levels of depression and anxiety being high among physicians, implementing skills to bolster well being are essential to a sustainable and fulfilling career. Through this workshop, the ElevateMeD Scholars were challenged to incorporate their own well being practices and were given tools to incorporate movement, gratitude, and mindfulness.
