Bert Vargas, MD completed his undergraduate and medical school education at the University of Arizona in Tucson and his internal medicine internship at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. He then served as a United States Air Force flight surgeon after which he completed a residency in neurology at New York University. He returned to Arizona for his headache medicine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona where he remained on faculty until moving to Dallas, Texas in 2015 to direct the UT Southwestern Sports Neuroscience and Concussion Program. His practice was focused on headache including post-traumatic headache from sports-related concussion and sports neuroscience. He is currently working with Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.
He has been a sideline neurotrauma consultant for Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University football, and Arizona State University women’s soccer. He is currently working as an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant for the NFL and NASCAR.
He previously sat on the board of directors for the American Headache Society (AHS) and the headache Cooperative of the Pacific. He is also the immediate past president of the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy. His practice remains focused on headache including post-traumatic headache from sports-related concussion and sports neuroscience.
